Officer Yandy Chirino

Died in The Line of Duty

On October 17th, 2021 at approximately 2230 hours, Officer Yandy Chirino was shot in the line of duty. Officer Chirino was in the 4000 block of North Hills Drive in reference to a suspicious person. While searching the area he came in contact with a subject who matched the description of the suspect. During Officer Chirino’s contact with the suspect, a violent physical altercation ensued resulting in Officer Chirino being shot.

The suspect was immediately apprehended and Officer Chirino was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital in a police vehicle by his fellow officers. The Hospital staff worked on Officer Chirino tirelessly. Unfortunately, Officer Chirino succumbed to his wounds on October 18th, 2021 at 0111 hours.
